Lewis & Associates Architects understands Aging In Place needs
More retirees are opting to age in place maintaining their independence in contrast to previous generations that sought to leisurely live in retirement communities. Although Americans are in better physical condition compared to their parents, aging takes a toll on physical well-being. We have found that losses in mobility and vision cause the greatest concerns. More families are opening their homes to older relatives which can enrich the lives of all if their environment is designed for their various needs. We stress safety and comfort when designing homes that make mobility, personal care, household chores, and meals easier as residents age.
Our process is to meet with clients to assess their specific goals and needs to establish a program. We survey and document their proposed residence. We design optional solutions as practical. We review possible solutions to bathing, toiletry, cooking, lighting, security, thermal comfort, etc. After a design is selected, we develop contract documents that can be priced by contractors or we can work with a preferred contractor. We observe construction to assure a properly completed project as details make a great difference.
